Brittle Bush - Encelia farinosa

Brittle Bush

Description: This 1' to 4’ tall perennial boasts brilliant yellow flowers, in a showy mass, on round, shrub-like woody plants with soft silver-gray foliage.

Flowering Season: November through May- with mid-spring peak

Comments: Excellent for disturbed areas where re-growth is wanted, yet low maintenance- will also re-seed ground nearby- trimming back old flower stems mid-winter for spring bloom, is helpful but not mandatory! Very drought resistant and popular in Southwestern landscapes. It has been used as incense, by being burned in churches in northern Mexico!
